The MEINL FWB190 Marathon Series Free Ride Wood Bongos are designed to cater to the needs of ambitious beginners and those seeking an affordable set with outstanding professional features. The MEINL patented Free Ride Suspension System joins the drums together without any holes drilled in the shells, maximizing the resonance and warm tones inherent in Rubber Wood. All MEINL bongo stands and mounts are equipped to securely hold the Free Ride mounting system in place. Marathon Series Wood bongos are outfitted with hand-selected buffalo heads that produce sharp highs and warm tones, and are easily tunable. Included in the package are a tuning key, accessory pouch, and tune-up oil. These bongos can be paired with any MEINL Congas, making them a great starting point or a finishing touch to your percussion set up. The Meinl Professional Bongo Stand (Model# TMB-S) for seated players will also allow you to comfortably set these up with your drum kit.
Rubberwood stave shells (cherry red finish, matte) are assembled based on uniform qualities like color and grain, ensuring a consistent sound. The precise proportions of the drums allow them to complement each other with separate pitches. The hand-selected buffalo skin heads provide a classic sound, with dynamic warmth, depth, and sharp highs, along with an outstanding feel. The heads measure 6 ¾" and 8".
The Meinl Free Ride Suspension System, a patented design, attaches the two individual drums without drilling holes into the shells, allowing for greater resonance and compatibility with any bongo stand. The 2 mm Meinl SSR rounded rims, with a black powder coating, sit lower than traditional bongo rims and feature a rounded edge for comfort and control, helping to avoid harsh or unwanted contact with the rim as you play with your hands.
Included with these bongos is a tuning wrench, which allows you to easily dial-in your desired pitch using the four 8 mm chrome-plated steel tuning lugs on each drum. This enables quick, on-the-spot adjustments or head changes.
