The MEINL Marathon Series Free Ride Wood Bongos are outfitted with exclusive MEINL hardware and come in three beautiful finishes. The MEINL patented Free Ride Suspension System means the drums are joined together with no holes drilled in the shells, maximizing the amount of resonance and warm tones that the Rubber Wood is known for producing. All MEINL bongo stands and mounts are equipped to securely hold the Free Ride mounting system in place. Marathon Series Wood bongos are equipped with hand-selected buffalo heads that produce sharp highs with warm tones, and are easily tunable, with a tuning key, accessory pouch, and tune-up oil included. These bongos pair well with any MEINL Congas, making them a great start or finish to your percussion set up. The Meinl Professional Bongo Stand (Model# TMB-S) for seated players will also allow you to comfortably set these up with your drum kit.
For professionals or intermediate players, the Meinl Marathon Series bongos are built with specialized features for a professional sound. The rubberwood stave shells come in a gold amber sunburst finish with a glossy look, and the solid rubberwood staves are assembled based on uniform qualities like color and grain for a consistent sound. The precise proportions allow the drums to complement each other with separate pitches.
The bongos are outfitted with natural, hand-selected buffalo skin heads, providing a classic sound with dynamic warmth and depth, along with sharp highs and an outstanding feel. The heads measure 6 ¾" and 8". The Meinl Free Ride Suspension System, a patented design, attaches the two individual drums without drilling holes into the shells, allowing for greater resonance and compatibility with any bongo stand.
The rounded, 2 mm Meinl SSR chrome-plated steel rims sit lower than traditional bongo rims and feature a rounded edge for comfort and control, helping to avoid harsh or unwanted contact with the rim as you play with your hands.
