Grammy-nominated producer, composer, and instrumentalist Diego Galé has devoted his artistic life to the knowledge of Afro-Cuban music to integrate it with his special way of creating music with flavor. The MEINL Percussion Diego Galé Artist Series Congas and Bongos are just what Diego needs in terms of comfort, look, and sound.
Diego started playing at an early age on bongos, later adding congas. He wanted his signature models to be wood because of its classic and original sound that represents the roots of his musical journey. Made with chamchuri wood and equipped with brushed nickel finish hardware, the shells have a stunning and unique look. Their sound is rich and dynamic, full of popping highs and warm lows for both studio and live situations. The congas have the classic MEINL shape to the shell and come in two versions: with buffalo skin heads or Remo Fiberskyn Symmetry heads. The bongos come with calfskin heads or Remo Fiberskyn Symmetry heads.
Diego Gale's signature bongos complement his congas with matching hardware and finish — these bongos were built to the specs Diego prefers to achieve a sound fit for Cuban, Latin American and mainstream American pop music. Solid chamchuri staves are assembled based on uniform qualities like color and grain for a consistent sound, and the precise proportions allow the drums to complement each other with separate pitches.
The bongos come equipped with Remo Fiberskyn heads that deliver increased volume and resonance while featuring a striking appearance. The heads measure 7" and 8 ½". The 3 mm Meinl SSR rounded rims sit lower than traditional bongo rims and feature a rounded edge for comfort and control, helping to avoid harsh or unwanted contact with the rim as you play with your hands.
The two individual drums are attached with the Meinl Free Ride Suspension system, a patented design that avoids holes being drilled into the shells, allowing for greater resonance and working with any bongo stand.
