This Djembe, made from a solid log of plantation-grown mahogany, provides an outstanding, full-volume sound. The traditional Mali-Weave tuning system with pre-stretched HTP rope ensures an easy and reliable way to keep the Djembe in tune.
The Djembe is first formed on a lathe, and the body is then carefully shaped by hand for a perfect bearing edge and proper interior contours. These factors are critical for optimum sound characteristics, including deep bass notes, full clear tones, and crisp cutting slaps, all without unwanted overtones.
The Meinl African Style Djembe is a perfect instrument for getting the confidence to play percussion with no experience. It is a lot of fun and doesn't require time-consuming practice on a drum set. You can play in drum circles, acoustic shows with bands, jam with friends and family, or teach students about rhythm.
The shell of this Djembe is hand-made from a single piece of solid mahogany from certified managed forests, not glued-together wood pieces. The exterior is beautifully hand-carved and looks great for decoration in your home or studio.
The traditional, pre-tuned goat skin rawhide head produces a classic warm, yet clear tone while being remarkably durable. It comes ready to play right out of the box, with the West African Mali Weave rope tuning system holding a long-lasting pitch.
The Djembe measures 10 inches wide by 20 inches tall and weighs approximately 9.5 lbs. The goat skin head measures 10 inches with an 8-inch playing area, as the head wraps around and down the rim.
